The Coastal Settlement - A Cast-Away Dining Experience

We had a special guest in June who flew all the way from Penang, Malaysia. She was Mummy Mae's very special friend and we hosted her for a few days.

This is Aunty ET who was Mummy Mae's room mate during University days and also house mate after graduation. Aunty ET and Mummy Mae went through school days, working days together and now both being mothers and lovely wives to two very lucky men! Despite our location is more than 600km apart, we are still in contact with each other. Thanks to modern technology (Whatsapp, facebook, etc) which helped to breech the gap.

A special guest means having a lavish reception to welcome her arrival. So Mummy Mae decided to bring Aunty ET to a special dining venue which we have not been before. Since we were to pick up Aunty ET from Changi Airport, we plan to check out this village home-like casual dining restaurant at Netheravon Road - The Coastal Settlement.

A colourful vintage volkswagon which serves as a decoration in the compound.
We were there on a Friday evening and the restaurant was almost fully occupied with patrons. The surroundings seemed quiet but we guessed most people would prefer to stay in the cosy air-conditioned indoors.

The quiet and romantic seats for outdoor diners.

The greenery path.

The indoor seating has a good vibe. The old-school style decorations made us feel nostalgic and cosy. The only disadvantage in sitting indoors is that the noise level was quite high due to big groups of customers. It was definitely not a place for a nice warm chat with an old friend.

Well, at least we were happy that the place was quite child friendly and they do provide cutleries for the little ones.

Now on to the showcase of our food orders..............

Dish #1 : Mussel and Clam in Cream
Price : $23.00
Our Take : We ordered this as a starter. The serving was not too big. We were able to divide among 3 adults. It came with bread as sides and certainly works well in dipping the creamy sauce.

Mussels and Clams

Dish #2 : Spicy Aglio Olio Spaghetti with Prawns
Price : $22.00
Our Take : Aunty ET settled with this dish. The prawns were not only juicy and succulent, but they were huge! The slight spiciness do tickle the taste bud and it was a great twist from the original garlic version.

Dish #3 : Rosti and Sausage
Price : $23.00
Our Take : A typical selection for the kids. The sunny side up could have better presentation. The serving was quite big and it was a complete meal with salad served by the side.

Dish #4 : Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang
Price : $18.00
Our Take : Many would have mind-bloggled over the price of $18.00 for a plate of Nasi Lemak!! However, we were glad that we made this order as it was one of the best dish on our table. The taste of the rendang was comparable or even better from what we could find elsewhere.

Dish #5 : Baby Back Ribs
Price : $34.00
Our Take : Another satisfied dish which was big enough to feed 2 persons. It came with fries, corn and coleslaw as the sides. The ribs were soft enough and the sauce was a perfect match.

The coleslaw....
Overall, it was a pleasant dinner. The servings were considered big. However, the dishes faired an average rating from us and it didn't leave us craving for a second visit. The ambience of the restaurant was definitely a thumbs up for us. We did explored the back compound of the restaurant and there was a simple playground for children. It was too dark and we did not check out further.
